David Williams wears many hats on the Vanderbilt University campus but none as public as the head of the varsity athletic program. Since taking command in September 2003, the Commodores have enjoyed unprecedented success on and off the field. The football team won the 2008 Music City Bowl championship, the basketball teams have reached the NCAA Sweet 16, the baseball team is now a national power and the bowlers won the school's first national championship. Academically, high-water marks have been set and reset as the composite grade point average for all student-athletes is over 3.0.
