by Barca Blog - Vanderbilt fans will see two familiar faces on the opposing bench tomorrow night when the Commodores take on Kansas State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Deb Patterson and associate head coach Kamie Ethridge both served under former Vanderbilt head coach Jim Foster. Patterson was the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 1992-96, while Ethridge was an assistant coach from 19991-96. Both were a part of the Commodores’ Final Four team in 1993 and the Elite Eight squad in 1996.
Patterson reflected on her time on West End during Sunday’s media day at The Pitt.
"That was just an unbelievably valuable time for me. I worked for Jim Foster. He is one of the great coaches in the women's game and very much of what I took forward to Kansas State and how we would play and build a program came from those days at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt and Coach Foster had the greatest impact on how I learned the game from an x and o point of view and determined we'd love to play. It was a great city, a great university, and great people."
Patterson landed the top job at Kansas State in 1996 and has flourished in the position. In 13 seasons, she stands as the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach in KSU history with a career record of 265-145 (.646).
