Championship game starter is....

by SID - Nick Christiani (5-5, 4.94 ERA)

Senior right-hander Nick Christiani is the most experienced pitcher on the Vanderbilt staff. He is the only pitcher on the roster that has been active during the run of three championship game appearances in four years dating back to 2006.

He is 11th on the Vanderbilt career wins list with 19 (19-15, 4.69 ERA) and has 222 strikeouts and 93 walks in 245.2 innings pitched. The New Jersey native will be making his 35th career start and second SEC tourney start.

He went 6.1 innings against South Carolina on May 23, 2008, and allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks in the winning effort.

Christiani is 1-1 in three career tournament appearances with a 3.48 ERA.

  1. Starting Christiani doesn't make much sense to me. Christiani hasn't been a conference weekend starter in a long time. Hayes hasn't even gotten in a single inning during the tournament. Hayes has been on the weekend rotation for a while now. Of course, I hope it works out for the best. Go 'Dores!

  2. Go Nick! Hayes will be available for long relief, though I admit that I'm surprised he isn't the starter.

Regardless, get those lefties ready in the pen!
