QB Controversy?

by Barca Blog - Don't expect to see a change at starting quarterback this Saturday against Rice, even though head coach Bobby Johnson didn't dismiss the idea during his press conference on Monday. (Full Transcript)

“We consider everything,” Johnson said. “We've got confidence in Larry (Smith) and we have confidence in Mackenzi (Adams). If Larry shows us in practice that he cannot and will not improve, we'll have to make a change, but I don't think that is going to happen. Larry is a hard worker and he wants to do the right thing every time and I think he will answer the call."

Johnson further elaborated on the topic during his appearance on the 104.5 Wake Up Zone Tuesday morning. (Listen Here)

“It would have to be pretty major (to cause a change). Larry has a great arm and makes all the throws that we want. He prepares hard and works hard. He would have to have a pretty bad attitude change for us to abandon the guy we have a lot of confidence in.”

My take from it is that the coaching staff is committed to the development of their redshirt sophomore QB... but don't be surprised to see Adams in relief if the Commodore offense repeats its struggles from last Saturday.
