Baseball to have Canned Food Drive

Vanderbilt's baseball team, in conjunction with the Second Harvest Food Bank, will be conducting a canned food drive at all three weekend baseball games against Georgia (April 30-May 2).

The team and athletic department encourage anyone coming to the game to bring a canned food item to donate. Players from the baseball team will be set-up outside the main gate collecting donations.

Last season a group of players (pictured above) organized a food drive for the Florida series. In all, 762 pounds of food were collected during the three-day series vs. Florida. Their slogan was "Take a Bite Out of Hunger and the Florida Gators."

Junior infielder Bryan Johns, student manager Tyler Pirtle, and sophomore catcher Drew Fann are organizing the food drive this year, in conjunction with a class project. The players are starting things off by using their own money to buy canned goods to donate into the boxes. They are going to continue the theme and this year it will be: "Take a Bite Out of Hunger and the Georgia Bulldogs."
