Fann named to SEC Community Service Team
By Travis Young
Vanderbilt catcher Drew Fann was awarded for his efforts in the community on Monday, when he was one of 12 players from the Southeastern Conference to be named to the SEC Baseball Community Service Team.
The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
Off the diamond, Fann has donated his spare time participating in the ALS Charity Walk, Vanderbilt Athletics Christmas party for local elementary students, Vanderbilt baseball canned food drives and served as a first-grade mentor at Eakin Elementary School. A native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Fann has also worked at pitcher/catcher camps at Bethel University.
In the classroom, the sophomore backstop sports a 3.37 cumulative GPA while majoring in Human and Organizational Development. Last year, Fann was named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
This year, Fann has been one of the most improved players on the team and his numbers make that case. Fann is hitting .380 with six doubles and seven RBI in 31 games this year, including 15 starts. The former Oakland High prep standout is one of the catchers for a team that leads the SEC with a 3.66 team ERA.
