Pollsters notice Commodores

by Barca Blog

Vanderbilt baseball jumped back into three national polls today after taking two out of three from defending national champion LSU over the weekend in Baton Rouge. Check out the latest rankings:

USA Today/ESPN: 17th (Last Week: 18th)

NCBWA: 17th (19th) 23rd (Not Ranked)

Baseball America: 23rd (NR)

Collegiate Baseball: 24th (NR)

  1. It's counterintuitive, but I think not playing three games against Georgia actually helped Vanderbilt because Georgia's RPI is so low. Georgia's RPI is about the same as LeMoyne, Bethune-Cookman, and Kennesaw State... and winning a series against any of those teams does nothing for your RPI (in fact, it might even hurt it by bringing down your strength of schedule). I'm looking forward to VU making a run on the home stretch before the NCAA's!

  2. Very astute observation Robert. The Dores were only expected to win one game in the Tigers home park and came within a run of sweeping them.

Gutsy performances by Taylor Hill and Jack Armstrong following a disappointing outing by Gray on Friday when he couldn't hold a big lead provided by the offense early in the game.

Sonny bounced back on Sunday to earn the save and Joe Loftus was clutch all weekend.

Look for the Commodores to finish strong with a sweep in Starkville and two-of-three against Arkansas in the last home series of the season.
