Baseball breaks into the rankings

by SID

Photo above was taken in Hollywood, Swanson must have been a fan of mine. Never had the chance to meet her. Anyway the baseball team's 10-1 start has garnered some attention from the polls, as the Commodores are ranked for the first time in three polls.

Last week, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association had VU ranked No. 25. After a 4-0 week, VU is now 10-1 on the season and ranked No. 20 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 24 by Baseball America and Rivals.com. The NCBWA will release this week's poll later Monday evening.

The Commodores' 10-1 record is the second best in the Southeastern Conference, behind undefeated No. 1 LSU (11-0). The league currently has as many as seven teams ranked in the various polls. This weekend's series against Ohio is the final non-conference series before VU opens SEC play at Alabama (March 19-21).
