We made it to our home for the week... the Doubletree Hotel San Jose.
The first thing Schulzie noticed upon our late-night arrival? Guests were in the swimming pool at 10 o'clock.
Welcome to.... Californiaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (cue The OC's theme song).
My lovely wife also told me that the Doubletree makes delicious, fresh-baked chocolate chip, walnut cookies that are complimentary. I guess that makes up for the $13 per day wireless fee that they are charging us. No worries... Cornelius will foot the bill.
Anyway, our charter flight left Nashville just after 7 p.m. CT. We arrived in San Jose four and a half hours later with no complications in the air. The Spirit of Gold pep band and VU cheer squad accompanied the rest of us McGugin-ites on the trip, so energy was at an all-time high as we entered Vanderbilt West.
I must admit that the two hour time difference has worked to my advantage. While my body might think it's 2 a.m., it's really more like midnight. That means I can work even later, and you're reaping the benefits. For example, I grabbed some snapshots of today's journey... check them out.

Wednesday will be a busy day for the coaches, players and staff. The team will have a closed practice at a local facility in the morning, followed by the mandatory NCAA Tournament media session and shoot-around at HP Pavilion, which is open to the public. The Commodores will take the floor from 1:30 - 2:10 PT.
A couple more things on our radar... Boggles and Schulzie have already proclaimed Denny's as the front-runner for breakfast. You can also bet that In-N-Out Burger will make it into the rotation at some point. Other suggestions are welcome.
Braeburn told me that a nearby establishment serves the Burritozilla, a monster 17-inch burrito weighing in at 5 pounds. That sounds like a challenge. You might remember two years ago when I passed a similar test at a joint in Tempe during an NCAA Baseball trip.
Well, that's it for tonight. Stay with us for complete postseason coverage and make sure you follow Twitter updates from the road @VandyMBB and @BarcaBlog.
Great stuff, Brandon. Keep it coming! Go Dores!
ReplyDeleteI don't care where you all eat, just make sure not to come back to Nashville with a loss! This team is way to talented to lose a out there. Stay focused.
ReplyDeleteCan't go wrong with In and Out.
ReplyDeleteand the 150 or so fans who sent the Dores off at Memorial Gym!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a brand new In n' Out right by the airport, you guys could walk! Also, try the 911 challenge at SmokeEaters in Santa Clara (close but not walkable)
ReplyDeleteAs long as you're in the neighborhood, definitely hit O'Flaherty's for St Patrick's Day love and Guinness (San Pedro Square), which will make up for the pregaming at the Brit tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAnd Trials Pub, up 1st street past St James Park, has cask-conditioned ale that will make your eyes pop. Totally worth a trip, once business is handled.
