WBB SEC Tournament Bracket

by Barca Blog

Vanderbilt lost their chance at a first-round bye in the upcoming SEC Women's Basketball Tournament after dropping a heartbreaking contest to South Carolina on Senior Day at Memorial Gym on Sunday.

The Commodores (20-9, 9-7 SEC) enter the tourney as a fifth seed, which means they need to win four consecutive games to defend their conference title from a year ago.

VU opens with 12th-seeded Arkansas on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT. Fourth-seeded LSU awaits the winner in the quarterfinals on Friday.

One positive... The four seniors should remember their last trip to Duluth, Ga. Each logged minutes as freshmen during the Commodores' championship run in 2007.

Can this group make it three titles in four years?

“For any team, whether it’s the No. 1 team or the worst team, it’s mental and physical toughness to win four games in four days," Merideth Marsh told the media. "Once again, it’s a challenge and we’re up for it. I hope we can look at this game as our season is not over and it depends on how we’re going to end the season. It’s up to us and no one can take it from us unless we let them. We have the heart to do it, so I’m excited about it.”

  1. How did Vanderbilt end up with the 5th seed? In the 4-way tie for 3rd place, Vandy went 1-3 against the other three teams, which should have put them 6th. What are the women's basketball tiebreakers?

  2. The blog posted on Saturday was a bit mixed up. In the case of a four-way tie, they used the records versus tied teams to separate two teams out of the tie. In this case, MSU went 3-1 vs. LSU, VU and UGA, so they received the 3 seed. LSU had a record of 2-1 against those teams, so they go the 4 seed. At this point, it goes back to a head-to-head tiebreaker between VU and UGA, and since the Commodores defeated Georgia in the regular season, they get the 5 and relegate the Lady Dawgs to the 6. Hope that clears it up - sorry for the confusion.

  3. So what is the best way to get tickets to the Thursday night game for seats with other Vandy fans. I went to the tournament web site, which just sends you to ticketmster, which doesn't tell you where each team's fans are seated.
