Live from Michie Stadium

by Barca Blog - Here's a picture of Michie Stadium from my seat in the press box. (click image to make bigger)

According to GoArmySports.com:

Only 15 FBS stadiums, and just six located east of the Mississippi River, are older than fabled Michie Stadium (1924). The original stadium structure was formally dedicated to the memory of Dennis Mahan Michie, who was instrumental in starting the game of football at the U.S. Military Academy in 1890. It was Michie who organized, managed and coached the first football team in history at West Point.

Army football's history and tradition is rivaled by few with three national championships (1944-46) and three Heisman Trophy winners to its credit. The Academy will honor one of its greats, three-time All-American and Heisman winner Felix "Doc" Blanchard, by retiring his number at halftime today.
