by Rocket - It happens many times a year and I once had the same misconception years ago.
Someone notices an orange flag flying from high atop a construction crane on our campus and jumps to the quick and easy conclusion that the construction crew has a Big Orange sports allegiance. Why on earth is Vanderbilt letting this happen?
The fact is that these orange flags have nothing to do with universities or sports; they are state mandated and must be flown at any and all construction sites that fit into certain parameters. We had so many irate Commodore fans complain about this that we once had a detailed description on our web site. The exact details of that state law are foggy to me at this moment but you now have the general theme next time you see orange flying high above Vanderbilt University.
