As we close out 2009, we'll be asking you to look back on a great decade of accomplishments for Vanderbilt Athletics.
I've been here since 2003 and could rattle off my list of memories, but this isn't about me. I want to know what stood out to you during this period.
Today's question... What was your favorite Commodore moment over the last 10 years?

Discuss, Debate and Reflect.
Even though it ended poorly, I'm not sure even Shan's Senior Night had an atmosphere like the 2007 Nashville Regional. The chanting of Black-Gold probably takes the cake as the best singular moment.
ReplyDeleteshan foster's 42 while hitting his last 9 three pointers was in a word, amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe ending full court out of bounds play that gave Vanderbilt the win over Wichita State in the NIT with less than a second is one of the most remarkable Memorial Magic moments for me. It still gives me chills and excitement when I remember it. It was my memorable moment of the decade. It was truly beautiful and electric.
ReplyDeleteThe comeback win over NC State in the 2004 NCAA tournament has to be tops for me. Frejie took over the game and that backdoor pass from corey smith to take the lead was unbelievable...one of the best moments in Commodore history
ReplyDeleteCutler's TD pass to Earl Bennett to beat UT in 2005.
ReplyDeleteMusic City Bowl victory!!
ReplyDeleteBeating Washington State in double OT was something I'll never forget. On the other side, the next game against Georgetown was the most painful loss I've ever exeperienced as a Commodore fan.
ReplyDeleteThe win over Auburn when gameday came to town, The Comeback againts Flordia in the swamp to sent it to O.T. (even though we lost thanks to the nice ref lol), or the 3 o.t. win vs Washington State in the ncaa tournament (what a block by derrick byers, he threw his stuff)
ReplyDeleteAny time you beat the rival in football, it has to rank as the best. Watching Whit Taylor cross the goal line with the ball held high ranks with Cutler to Bennett in my view. This is from a fan since 1969. Football wins are tough enough, but those are to be relished.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great moments. Another one I'd add to the list was the 93-52 stomping of Kentucky in 2008 ... Dores leading 41-11 at halftime and Memorial Gym as delirious as I've ever seen it.
ReplyDeleteBeating the vols after they bought, i mean recieved a no.1 ranking in basketball. It was the best moment ever looking at all of the people who live in nashville but can not support the city they live in walk out losers.
ReplyDeletei vote the electric atmosphere at memorial gym on feb 17, 2007 as the dores knocked off the #1 florida gators ... the last 4 minutes of that game and the madness that ensued on the court thereafter was unmatched in my 4 years as a dore from 04-08.
ReplyDeleteThe black-gold chant going at the baseball regional's was unreal, I only wish that tournament could have had the same defining moments on the field of play that the basketball and football teams have had over the last 10 years...
ReplyDeleteCan't be a singular basketball moment - Shan's 42 on senior night, Derrick's block against Wash St in the 2nd round, Mario's assist to Corey to beat NC State, Holwerda's pass to Corey to beat Wichita State, Mario's 35ft running swish to beat Oregon, Shan's tip-in to beat the Vols in '06, beating two #1 teams in back-to-back seasons, Dawid Przybyzewski knocking down shot after shot while my friends and I had his name painted on our chests, Neltner outscoring UK in the first half of home game in 2008, Stallings' playing keep-away with the ball from Joakim Noah on the baseline, Freije's 18-18 on free-throws to beat Indiana...
... the goal posts parading down West End after finally getting an SEC win over UK in '03, Cutler to Bennett time and time again to finally beat UT in '05, Hahnfeldt booting the game winner between the hedges in Athens, Chris Marve's strip at the goal line to secure the win over Ole Miss in '08 (and an honorable mention to Ryan Hamilton for his goal line tackle from around the corner and his 3 interceptions in that Ole Miss game as well), College Gameday at the Commons, Justin Wheeler's TD against Auburn later that day, DJ Moore's huge game against UK to secure the bowl bid, Sean Richardson recovering the "Punchdown" (as my friends call it) to score in the Music City Bowl, Myron Lewis' sideline interception to seal the first bowl victory in 50+ years, shaking David Williams' hand and taking a picture with the bowl trophy after the game, the emergence of the VanderBears in the NFL...
Shan Foster's performance was not the best I saw in the decade. No way! It was the best I've seen in my life!!! He hit his last nine threes in a row, ALL coming after the 10 minute mark in the second half. He sent it to overtime with one, and won the game with another. Oh, and they all came after missing his first six attempts. Incredible!
ReplyDelete1. Worth Scott's home run was without a doubt the single biggest moment.
ReplyDelete2. Women's tennis win over favored Georgia in NCAA semi-final in 2001 to put a Vandy team in the national championship for the first time
3. Shan Foster's 42 - spectacular
4. Beating the Evil Empire in 2005
5. Fans are forgetting our only national championship - the bowler's win in 2007.
