Vitale coming to Memorial

ESPN basketball analyst Dick Vitale is scheduled to call Saturday's matchup between Vanderbilt and Kentucky in Nashville.

Vitale tweeted earlier today, "Can't wait for this week...going to Georgetown and Vandy this week."

Vitale hasn't been to Memorial since I started my job here in 2003. Can anyone remember the last time he came to West End?

All I have to say is, "Awesome, baby!"

I know some of you refuse to use Twitter based on how annoying it can be when others tell you about every thought and opinion they have during the day. While I won't disagree with you, I will point out that it is also a good application to keep up with the latest news and scores of Commodore sporting events on your cell phone or on the Internet (like tonight's women's basketball game @VandyWBB).

And just because you have an account doesn't mean you have to give status updates. You can just follow other tweets.

School is out and I ain't been on the court yet....

By Weinman - With apologies to Will Smith, it may be summer time but school is in session and the Commodore women's basketball team is finding plenty time to get out on the court. The ladies got a pickup game together earlier this week at the Student Recreation Center and I stopped by to grab the first photo of the 2009-10 squad.

By Barca Blog - So, you may have heard that our official site, VUcommodores.com, has joined the Twitter world.

What is twitter you might ask? Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

I like to use it because I can sync up my cell phone up to receive live Commodore score updates. For example, I was at dinner with my lovely wife last night and while she wasn't looking, I could sneak into my pocket and check my phone to see if I received any baseball score updates from VandyBaseball on Twitter.

Also, I can keep track of what the women's basketball team is doing on the road at the SEC Tournament in North Little Rock, Ark., by joining VandyWBB on Twitter.

I can also decide which news I want to follow so I am not overwhelmed with text messages. And Twitter can be used for other things besides cellphones... You can keep up with it on the internet if you don't want texts.
