Maybe it was a good thing that Grayson Garvin didn't throw a pitch in anger before March 30. The seemingly innocuous scoreless inning that day against the Terriers with three strikeouts proved the lefty was ready to go. It was bigger still just four days later when Corey Williams took a ball off the kneecap versus Florida that required season-ending surgery while leaving the Commodores with just Richie Goodenow and freshman Sam Selman as the only other left-handed options for match-ups.
Rehabbing to be completely healthy proved to be a good thing, especially now in the post-season. In three post-season appearances including action today, G-Squared has been impressive allowing just three runs on 14 hits over 15.2 innings. The 1.72 ERA over that span, combined with 13 strikeouts have been huge.
The three-inning save today, Garvin's first as a Commodore, shows his versatility and is a glimpse that there may be even better things to come.

Corey Williams Update
by SIDAn update on Corey Williams. Above is the x-ray of his knee, and as you can see his kneecap is broken. After seeing that, it makes the play he made (video) that much more amazing. He will have surgery back at Vanderbilt early this week and is out for the year.
An unfortunate end to what was shaping up to be a great first year for the redshirt freshman from Huntsville, Ala. He had developed into one of the top hurlers out of the bullpen, making 12 relief appearances and was 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA. The southpaw had 17 strikeouts to just six walks in 17.0 innings and opponents were hitting just .215 against him.

In Vanderbilt's 7-3 loss to Florida on Saturday, Commodore reliever Corey Williams was injured in the seventh inning on a line drive by Gator third baseman Austin Maddox right back up the middle that hit him in his right knee.
The sophomore southpaw from Huntsville, Ala., couldn’t move, but was able to get the ball and toss it/roll it towards first base, where Aaron Westlake picked it up and tagged Maddox out.
Williams remained down on the mound and had to be carted off the field with the leg injury. He was getting an x-ray taken at the end of the game and has a knee injury that will sideline him indefinitely.
