Thank you from Myron Lewis

by Barca Blog

With the NFL Draft only one day away, Myron Lewis took time out of his busy schedule to film a thank you message (above) to National Commodore Club supporters, season ticket holders and fans.

Just as impressive as Lewis' ability to shut down opposing receivers is the fact that he earned a degree in Human and Organizational Development in December -- only three and a half years since coming to Vanderbilt.

Lewis plans to follow the draft with family and friends in Florida.

Best of luck in your future endeavors, Myron.

NFL Draft Note: The NFL Draft will extend to three days this year with the first round moving to primetime Thursday in New York City (ESPN, 6:30 p.m CT). The second and third rounds will be held Friday night (ESPN2, 5 p.m. CT) and rounds 4-7 will take place Saturday morning (ESPN, 9 a.m. CT). The NFL Network will also broadcast the event live.

(Thanks to SF for the video)

MBB locker room enhancements

by Barca Blog

Back in the summer of 2008, Memorial Gym was given a new $2.5 million facelift with upgrades to some things you see (like the court) and other things you don't.

Since it's slow around the office with exams going on (and no events until Saturday), I thought I'd give you a behind-the-scenes look at the enhancements made to the men's basketball locker room and meeting room.

Kicking it off right

by Barca Blog - Make sure you check out Steve Green's photos from Tuesday night's Kickoff Picnic hosted by the National Commodore Club.

(View Pictures)

We had a great turn out with around 300 people in attendance. Fans were greeted with a meal by Golden Rule BBQ, plus plenty of pep courtesy of the Spirit of Gold and Vanderbilt cheerleading squad.

Coaches and staff from most sports were on hand to discuss the upcoming athletic year while also reflecting on last year's success stories. Bobby Johnson and co-captain Bradley Vierling addressed the crowd, as well as Vice Chancellor David Williams and Joe Fisher.

You could tell everyone at the event was ready for the season to get underway.

As Vierling put it, "We're tired of hitting each other at practice, and ready to hit someone else."

Football construction update

by Barca Blog - As I promised on Sunday... here are some updated photos of the football stadium renovations courtesy of John Russell.

Phase 2 is almost complete with kickoff only 11 days away. You'll notice black and gold pavers in the shape of the Star V logo have been added into the plaza areas as well as your personalized bricks. Also, benches and light posts surround the entrances with plants placed around the exterior walls. And check out the Star V over the tunnel at Star Walk. I've been told it will light up for night games.
