Giobbi and Gomez talk Super Regional

By Travis Young

Instead of Ron Burgundy and the Channel 4 News Team, Vanderbilt’s Andrew Giobbi and Anthony Gomez filled in as co-anchors for a vucommodores.com exclusive video after practice Thursday at Mike Martin Field in Tallahassee.

The extreme heat, Dick Howser Stadium’s short right-field porch and team colors are all topics covered by Gio and Go-Go in the video below.

Gomez named Freshman All-American

by SID

Earlier this week second baseman Anthony Gomez was named to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-American team.

Gomez currently leads the Commodores with a .377 batting average with two homers and 28 RBI in 57 games (48 starts) on the year. He is one of the toughest players to strikeout in the nation with just eight strikeouts in 204 at bats on the year (ranked fifth in nation at one K every 25.5 at-bat)

The New Jersey product is also a fine fielding second baseman with just five errors on the season and sports a .971 on base percentage.

Gomez is the 18th Commodore to receive Freshmen honors and the seventh player to receive the plaudit under Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin.

Video: Giobbi introduces Gomez to Hoover

by Barca Blog

Andrew Giobbi should know Regions Park as well as anyone playing in the SEC Tournament this week.

The fifth-year senior has experienced it all in Hoover from winning the championship in 2007 to being selected to the all-tournament team after hitting .533 with two home runs last season.

"Gio" took it upon himself to give freshman teammate Anthony Gomez a brief history lesson following Tuesday's practice session.

Leftovers from Auburn baseball series

by Barca Blog

Yes, it's been a week since the Commodores took two out of three from Auburn.

Well, I've been sitting on two items for the blog that might peak your interest... even if I'm a couple of days late.

I'm going to blame my procrastination on my family's new puppy, Jellybean (pictured above).

I received some requests to post an mp3 of Joe Fisher's radio call of Aaron Westlake's walk-off homer. You can put it on your iPod, iPad, or whatever. Click here to download.

Also, Schnab's hooked me up with this footage of Anthony Gomez's web gem and two of Taylor Hill's strikeouts. Enjoy.
