Video: Heavyweights or Bash Brothers?

By Travis Young

I caught up with Adam Smotherman and TJ Greenstone during a summer photo shoot in the weightroom to see what they were up to. The two interior defensive linemen were having some fun with the event as they tested the waters of singing Darius Rucker's "Alright" karaoke style. See video below (and check out David Rutz's feature on the duo).

The second video clip is with Vanderbilt professional staff photographer, John Russell. JR gets a quick lift in before the next photo shoot.

Video: Smotherman motivated to return

by Leathers

A week after injuring his left knee and facing corrective surgery, Commodore defensive tackle Adam Smotherman is keeping a stiff upper lip and planning to be back for his final year in a Vanderbilt uniform.

During his upcoming rehabilitation, the senior plans to be as much of a mentor to his defensive interior teammates as he can possibly can.

Vanderbilt football SID Larry Leathers catches up with an upbeat Smotherman recently on the practice field.

Ten elected to football leadership council

by Leathers

Ten veterans of the Commodore football team, including seven that started a year ago, have been voted to the squad's leadership council.

Council representatives for the 2010 season are Larry Smith, quarterbacks; Kennard Reeves, running backs; Brandon Barden, tight ends; John Cole, receivers; Joey Bailey, offensive line; Adam Smotherman, defensive tackles; Tim Fugger, defensive ends; Chris Marve, linebackers; safety Sean Richardson, defensive backs; and snapper David Giller, specialists.

This marks the sixth year teammates have elected Leadership Council representatives. The council meets periodically to address team and student-athlete issues while serving as the players' voice communicating with coaches.

What a rush

by Barca Blog - Since I wasn't a collegiate athlete (tough to believe, right?), I've always wondered what it's like to go into these massive stadiums on the road where all odds were stacked against you.

Junior defensive tackle Adam Smotherman tried to explain it to me yesterday during his Ask A Dore interview.

“My family asks me that all the time," Smotherman said. "Just think of the biggest rush you’ve ever had in your life and that’s every second that you’re on the field. It’s a great feeling with the entire crowd screaming.

"I’ve heard that LSU is the only stadium to register on the Richter Scale, so I’m going to be excited to go down there."

It's comments like these that get me excited about making my first trip to LSU. You see, I've been to the 11 other SEC venues and just need Tiger Stadium to finish my list. I'm looking forward to seeing if Saturday nights in Baton Rouge live up to the hype.

And yes, legend has it that after LSU scored the winning touchdown against Auburn in 1988, the eruption of the crowd was so loud that it was detected by a seismograph in LSU’s Howe-Russell Geoscience Complex. The game is now referred to as The Earthquake Game.

That's college football folks.

I'll leave you with the video of the day... Phil Collins singing "Against All Odds" in front of a jam-packed Wembley Stadium during Live Aid in 1985.
