Things are looking good for the women's golf team in Greenville, N.C., with the team in the clubhouse with a fifth place position and a seven-over par, 871, for the three-day tournament. The top teams heading into the final round teed off early on Saturday morning. The Commodores shot a four-over par, 292, in their final round at the Ironwood Country Club.
The fifth place position ensures the Commodores of a trip to the NCAA Championships in Wilmington, N.C., May 18-21. The top eight teams from the East Regional advance to the national championship.
There are still 12 teams on the golf course, but the closest team, as of 3 p.m. CT, is Wake Forest, who is in ninth place and 13 strokes back of the Commodores. Things are not official yet, but Vanderbilt has all but locked up a top-eight spot.
Check back later on vucommodores.com with a full recap after results go official, which will probably be 6 p.m. CT or so.
