Photos: Practice session in Louisville

The Vanderbilt baseball team spent Thursday morning getting reacquainted with Jim Patterson Stadium, the site of the 2010 NCAA Louisville Regional.

The Commodores were allowed to practice for one hour at the facility in preparation for Friday's opener against Illinois State.

Photos: Commodores at Regions Park

The Commodores had their opportunity to get acquainted with Regions Park, the site of the 2010 SEC Tournament, on Tuesday evening.

On a nice, sunny day in Birmingham, the team spent one hour practicing on the field, followed by media interviews, and a kettlebell workout led by strength coach Gabe Teeple.

Commodores present check to Red Cross

Prior to Saturday's game, the Vanderbilt baseball team along with David Williams, Vice Chancellor for University Affairs and Athletics, presented a check to the American Red Cross totaling $24,689.82 to go to flood relief efforts in Middle Tennessee. Monetary donations as well as clothing and food items were collected at the Commodores' game against Louisville on May 11.

Belated pomp and circumstance

Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos held a special graduation ceremony on Monday for Commodore student-athletes that missed the official commencement due to sporting events last weekend.

Ten student-athletes from baseball, men's and women's tennis, and track were honored for their academic accomplishments in front of family, friends, teammates, coaches, and staff inside the Student Life Center.

Let's take one more look back at the flood relief effort by the Nashville community at Vanderbilt's baseball game on Tuesday.

The game raised over $25,000 to benefit the Nashville chapter of the American Red Cross. Just an amazing show of support by the Commodore Nation!

How did we reach that impressive total?

*Vanderbilt coaches, staff, and former players collected donations from fans at the front gates of the stadium

*Sodexo concessions and the Vanderbilt Bookstore contributed their sales profits

*Maggie Corbin and daughter Hannah baked and sold cupcakes

*A silent auction was held with the following items:

-Vanderbilt Baseball USA-themed jersey signed by entire team

-Package of autographed photos and record of Lady Antebellum

-Autographed golf flag by Brandt Snedeker

-Autographed photo of flooded Hawkins Field signed by the entire team

-Replica Chicago Bears helmet signed by Chris Williams, Jay Cutler, and Earl Bennett

*Louisville, the Commodores' opponent, generously made a monetary donation

Also, fans brought in food items and household goods to give to Second Harvest Food Bank and Hands on Nashville

It truly was an incredible night to give back to Nashville. A big, big thanks to everyone who pitched in to help those in need.

Photos: Johnson at charity golf event

Football head coach Bobby Johnson and former basketball standout Will Perdue represented Vanderbilt for the second year in a row at the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament Tuesday.

The Commodore duo finished tied for 6th and netted $22,500 to go to Vanderbilt's scholarship fund.  Johnson also won the coaches' longest drive competition (275 yards).

Each ACC and SEC coach that participated in the event (12 overall) was paired with a former athlete from their school. Click the photo below for a closer look at the field.
